Shirley L. Lampert

of Rapid City, South Dakota, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, January 1, 2001
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 79

Shirley L. Rumsey was born October 4, 1921, at Kadoka, South Dakota, the daughter of Steve and Katie (Deadrich) Rumsey.  She grew up and received her education in Kadoka.

Shirley was united in marriage to Robert H. Lampert on September 20, 1941, at South Sioux City, Nebraska.  They owned and operated the Lampert Ranch south of Philip until semi-retiring in 1972, at which time they moved to their property in Rapid Valley.

After her husband's death on December 9, 1983, she continued to make her home in Rapid Valley.

Shirley was an active member of the United Church of Philip.  She was a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, the National Cattlewomen's Association (Black Hills Chapter), and the White River Grazing District.  She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Philip Chapter #100, as well as an honorary member of the Rapid City Elks Lodge #1187.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Viola Moody and her husband, Donald, of Philip, and Norma Lampert-Jiskra of Guilford, Connecticut; a sister, Muriel Neisses of Powell, Wyoming; a sister-in-law, Ann Rumsey of Rapid City; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Robert H. Lampert, she was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Katie; two brothers, Bob and Bill Rumsey; and three sisters, Lu Parke, Sophia Babby, and Bernice Miles.

A memorial is established to the United Church of Philip.
