Andrew "Andy" Petrasof Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2000

Andrew Petras, better known as "Andy" to his family and friends, was born December 28, 1914 in Holden, West Virginia, the son of Andrew and Mary (Gaydos) Petras.
His early life was spent in West Virginia where he received his education. In 1929, the family moved to the Kadoka, SD community.
As a young man, he worked for various farmers and ranchers in that area.
In 1934, he joined the CCC's and worked with them for five years. He then worked as a carpenter until being drafted in the U.S. Army in August 1941, during World War II. He spent all four years stationed in Hawaii and was at the Schofield Barracks when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
After his discharge in October 1945, he returned to Kadoka where he continued to work construction until his retirement.
Andrew was united in marriage to Mary J. Conlee on October 25, 1947, in Belle Fourche, SD.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying huting, fishing and trap shooting. He enjoyed walking through the Badlands as a rock hunter. When he was in his 50's he started bowling, which he enjoyed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary Petras of Kadoka; three sons, Gary Petras and his wife, Linda, of Kadoka; Wayne Petras and his wife, Dawn, of Granby, CO; Andy R. Petras and his wife, Julie, of Surrey, ND; two daughters, Marcene Buehrer and her husband, Ed, of East Alton, IL; Marsha Rayfield and her husband Mark, of Granby, CO; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Kapalo of Huntington Valley, PA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Irene Petras, Mary McHenry, and Betty Jones; and a brother in infancy.
The family request memorials be directed to the Kadoka Ambulance Service.
