Morris Sorensen

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2000
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 81

Morris Barton Sorensen was born July 12, 1919, in Philip, South Dakota, the son of Soren and Arta (Ramsey) Sorensen.

He grew up on his father's homestead on North Fork Creek, northwest of Philip.  He graduated from Philip High School.

He was united in marriage to Helen June Franklin on January 2, 1943, in Newcastle, Wyoming.

They made their home on the Sorensen homestead, which they operated until retiring in 1984.  Morris also worked at the Philip Livestock Auction for 25 years.

After retiring in 1984, because of Morris' health, they moved to Rapid City where they lived for two years before moving to Philip in 1986, where they have since resided.

Morris was a charter member of the Community Evangelical Free Church of Philip, where he served as a board member for several years.  He was also a member of the Gideon Society.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Helen J. Sorensen of Philip; three daughters and their spouses, Marlene and Bruce Urban of Modesto, California, Linda and Kenneth McIlravy of Philip, and Lee Ann and Rod Knutson of Philip; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eleanor Edwards of Philip, Letitia Gustafson of Faith, and Doris Burns of Vivian; and a host of other relatives and friends.
