Christopher "Bubba" Smootof Belle Fourche, South Dakota, died on Saturday, January 1, 2000

Christopher Lloyd Smoot, better known as "Chris" or "Bubba" to his family and friends, was born September 5, 1981, at Belle Fourche, South Dakota, the son of William "Bill" and Angela "Angie" (Johnston) Smoot.
His preschool days were spent living in Belle Fourche, Philip and Salem, South Dakota. In 1986, he and his family returned to Belle Fourche where he lived until October of 1999, when he moved to Rochester, Minnesota, to live with his mother, step-father and sister.
Chris was a standout student/athlete who earned eight varsity letters in football, track, and wrestling. Chris was also involved in oragnized soccer, golf and basketball. He loved lifting weights, playing video games, hunting and just being with his family and friends.
Chris spent the last five summers at South Dakota Tech attending an advanced college program for gifted students.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Angie Charlson and her husband, Don, of Rochester, Minnesota; and his father, Bill Smoot and his wife, Jayne Sager, of Belle Fourche; a sister, Staci Smoot of Rochester; step-brothers and sisters, Jeremiah, Jenny and Kristina Charlson, Megan and Morgan Moore; maternal grandparents, Lane and Midge Johnston of Interior, South Dakota; and a special grandma, Peggy Benne of Wall; paternal grandparents, John Smoot and Violet Smoot of New Underwood; several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and classmates.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Wanda Johnston.
A memorial is established to the Belle Fourche High School weight room to help others excel in life and achieve their goals.
