Frances O'Connell

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, April 16, 1999
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 78

Frances M. Slovek was born June 13, 1920 in Haakon County near Philip, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Emma (Buchholz) Slovek.  She grew up in the Grindstone community and attended the Enterprise Rural School prior to graduating from Philip School in 1938.  She attended a business college following graduating.

Frances was united in marriage to Dale O'Connell on April 23, 1942, at Philip.  She dedicated her life to helping others through work and civic activities.  Her ready smile, uplifting personality and genuine friendship were known and loved by all.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dale E. O'Connell of Philip; three daughters, Donna Perez and her husband, Richard, of Rapid City, Donnette O'Connell and Tony of Vista, California, Anita Brawner of Orange County, California; five sons, Dale B. O'Connell and his wife, Cindy, of Belvidere, Glenn O'Connell and his wife, Rita, of Philip, Kent O'Connell and his wife, Cindy, of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Delane O'Connell and Judi of Rapid City and Roger O'Connell and his wife, Teresa, of Philip; 21 grandchildren, Leslie, Raymond, Craig, Bruce, Paul, Amy, Heather, Tara, Trace, Stephanie, Kendra, Billy, Michael, Kayla, and Jeff O'Connell, Amy Adair, Danielle and Paige Brawner, Jennifer Cunningham, Derrick and Lia Perez; five great-granddaughters, Alana, Kaitlin, Alexandria, Kyra and Jordan; three brothers, Earl Slovek of Philip, Herb Slovek of Rapid City, John "Bud" Slovek of San Rafael, California, one sister, Bonnie Walters of Orange County, California; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her life long friend, Mary Alice Deuchar of Philip, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Frances was preceded in death by a son, John Charles O'Connell; one great-granddaughter, Aerial O'Connell; her parents and two brothers, Everett Slovek and Frank Slovek.
