She married Wayne Hawley on November 19, 1952, at Ft. Pierre.  They made their home in Ft. Pierre where they operated the Ft. Pierre Dry Cleaners until their retirement in the mid-1970s.

Wayne preceded her in death on October 12, 1980.  Clara moved into Pierre where she resided until January 9, 1996, when she moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where she has since resided.
