Marie Anderson

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 95

Anna Marie Roseth was born January 14, 1919, at her parents’ homestead 40 miles north of Midland in the Moenville area. She grew up and received her education through 8th grade at the Stoney Butte School, and attended high school in Pierre. While attending high school, Marie lived with two teachers and worked for her room and board. She also attended Augustana College and received her teaching certificate. Marie taught and lived in a rural grade school near the family ranch.

Marie married Kenneth “Kink” Anderson in 1943. They were married 57 years when he died in 2000. Marie and Kink enjoyed many “road” trips across the United States and Canada, both with their children and after their children were grown. Marie also got to go to Norway with her son Wayne, and his wife April and granddaughter Tasha, to visit Marie’s father’s birthplace and to visit relatives.

Marie always attended the Deep Creek Church with her parents while growing up, and later was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle of Midland. She was always active in the church and enjoyed all the social activities. Marie loved to dress up and go somewhere. It really didn’t matter where – she just loved to go.

Marie worked in Midland as a postal clerk with her postmaster husband, Kink, until she retired after 25 years in 1979. Marie was a wonderful cook, so her family was blessed with a lifetime of delicious meals. She also spent a lot of hours embroidering and crocheting, which were hobbies she learned as a child. She and Kink also loved to dance.

Grateful for having shared her life include her daughter, Judy Daly, of Midland; her daughter, LaVonne Wheeler and her husband, Bill of Pierre; her son, Wayne Anderson, and his wife, April, of Rapid City; her son, Jim Powers, and his wife, Pat of Muscatine, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Kink on December 31, 2000; her parents Julius and Mary Roseth; three brothers Clarence, Paul and Roy Roseth; and her grandson Patrick Daly.

Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with Pastor Lauren Ley officiating.

Interment will be at the Midland Cemetery.

She was one fine lady and during the years we carried mail out of Midland Kink and Marie ran the post office. We always got along well with them and did visit them a time or two in the years after we had left the farm and the KOA. Once when we were there we enjoyed looking at all the model wagons Kink and built and they told me of their travels. We are glad they had a good life. They really helped to hold the town together

There are a select few people in this world that are always loving and truly care about others more than themselves, Marie was one of those special people. My sincere sympathy to all of her family and friends. I thank God to have known her, and that she considered me a friend. It was a joy to care for her at the Silverleaf.

I was away when Marie went to join Kink, I am sorry I wasn't able to attend her service, I really enjoyed getting to know her better when she moved into the Silverleaf when Mom was there. She was a joy filled person and made your day brighter just being in the same room with her. God Bless you all with happy memories and all the love she shared with you during her life and forever.
