Ida Ruth Jerke, better known as "Ruth" to her family and friends, was born January 1, 1915, in American Falls, Idaho, to Fred and Dora (Fisher) Jerke. She grew up in the farming community of Kulm, North Dakota.
Ruth was united in marriage to Oscar Keller on December 16, 1934, in Kulm.
Oscar and Ruth moved to Philip in 1952 where she lived until moving to Kansas City, Missouri, in the fall of 1993. While in Philip, Ruth was known by many for her baking and cooking skills. Oscar and her at one time owned and operated the Midway Cafe in Philip.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Della Sargent of Grandview, Missouri, Jean Weller of Kadoka, and June Hout of Coppel, Texas. She also had 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Art Jerke of Galt, California, Henry Jerke of Ellendale, North Dakota, and Marvin Jerke of Santa Rosa, California; two sisters, Lorraine Miller of Philip and Rose Quast of Bismarck, North Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Keller, on September 13, 1985; her parents; one brother, Fred Jerke; and her sister, Violet Staddler.
Ruth will be greatly missed. A memorial is established.
