He was united in marriage to Mildred I. Trople on June 15, 1938, at New Underwood.
They made their home on a farm north of Wall for two years prior to moving to a farm-ranch east of Wall, which they operated until 1943 when they moved to Wasta. He worked for Birdsall Sand and Gravel Company as a drag line operator until 1960 when the family moved to Philip, South Dakota. While in Philip he worked for the Haakon County Highway Department for six years prior to moving to Kadoka in 1966 where he worked for the Jackson County Highway Department unil 1970. In 1970 they moved to Oral, South Dakota, where he worked for the Angostura Irrigation District for three years prior to moving to Hot Springs where he and his wife both worked for the State Veterans Home until 1981 when they retired.
After retirement they moved back to Wasta. While in Wasta he mowed lawns, and enjoyed gardening and doing other odd jobs until September of 1993 when they moved into the Prairie Village Apartments in Wall. Because of health reasons, they moved into the Black Hills Retirement Center.
