A. Raymond Thomas

of Wanblee, South Dakota, died on Sunday, October 9, 1994
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 76

Alfred Raymond Thomas, better known as "Raymond" to his family and friends, was born May 8, 1918, at Rapid City, South Dakota, to Alfred R. and Ida (Brown) Thomas.

As an infant he lived on a ranch on Bear Creek 10 miles west of Wanblee, South Dakota.  In 1923 the family moved to a ranch one mile south, where they resided until 1924 when they moved to Port Gibson, Mississippi.  In 1926 they returned to the Wanblee area where Raymond grew up and received his education.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle Cayler on October 5, 1940, at Rapid City.

In 1944 they moved on the former Jim Garner ranch on Bear Creek, west of Wanblee, which they operated all their married life.

Raymond was a member of the Presbyterian Church; Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M.; and the Evergreen Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star.  He served on the South Dakota Livestock Sanitation Board and the South Dakota Stockgrowers Board.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Myrtle Thomas of Wanblee; two sons, Terry Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Paul Thomas of Wanblee; a daughter, Nancy Peterson and her husband, Dale, of Kadoka; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Marshall Thomas of Pleasant Hill, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.
