Lester Ray Ravellette, better known as "Les" to his family and friends, was born July 4, 1932, in Knox County, Indiana, to Joseph and Elsie (Meeks) Ravellette.

He received his first years of education in Decker, Indiana.  His father died in January 1945 and Elsie and the children moved to Sisseton, South Dakota, in December of 1946, where he graduated from Sisseton High School.

Les served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and after his discharge he returned to the Sisseton area.  He attended South Dakota State College in Brookings where he majored in journalism.  He worked for the Gregory Times Advocate in Gregory, South Dakota.

Les was united in marriage to Belle Vaughn on November 15, 1953, at Gregory.

They made their home in Gregory until moving to Sturgis in 1959 where he worked at the Sturgis Tribune.  They moved to Philip in January of 1960 where Les worked as a linotype operator.  In January 1963 they purchased The Pioneer Review.  In addition to The Pioneer Review of Philip, The Pennington County Courant of Wall was purchased in 1978, and The Kadoka Press, in 1989, forming Ravellette Publications, Inc.

Les was a member of the United Church; the Philip Masonic Lodge #153 AF & AM; the Scottish Rite; NAJA Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jestors; was active in the Four Rivers Shrine Club; the Eastern Star, Philip Chapter #100; the South Dakota Newspaper Association; and the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Post #173 of Philip.

Les was an avid hunter and fisherman; enjoyed wood working and spending time with his family.
