Dorothy Fitch

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, January 5, 1991
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 69

Dorothy B. Hansen was born May 6, 1921, on a ranch near Turtle Creek, south of Faith, South Dakota, to Morrie and Libbie (Foyt) Hansen.

As a child she moved with her parents to Philip where she grew up and graduated from Philip High School in 1939.

As a young lady she moved to California where she worked in an aircraft factory during World War II.  After the war she returned to Philip.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Lewis E. "Bud" Fitch on October 16, 1948, at Rapid City, South Dakota.

They owned and operated a trucking business all their married life.  They trucked locally and long distances.  Dorothy was one of the first female long haul truck drivers.

Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of Tribe 3 of the Evening Guild of the church.  She was a member of the Wheeler-Brooks American Legion Auxiliary Post #173 of Philip since 1946.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Lewis E. "Bud" Fitch; three daughters, Diane Fitch, Marianne (Mrs. Tom) Moriarty, and Jill Alfaro, all of Philip; six grandchildren, Tadd, Vance, Patrick, Mikal, and Ian Moriarty, and Dorothy Ann Alfaro, all of Philip; one brother, Verley Hansen of Tucson, Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Harry "Butch" Hansen, Donald Hansen, and Ed Hansen.
