Edward J. Nemec

of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, formerly of Midland, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, June 28, 1989
at his home in Fort Pierre at the age of 88

Edward J. Nemec was born February 10, 1901, on a farm in Yankton County near Tabor, South Dakota, to Joseph and Rose (Mach) Nemec.

At the age of seven, he moved with his parents to a homestead in Stanley County north of Midland, South Dakota.

He grew up and received his elementary education there.  Later he attended agricultural school in Brookings and mechanical school in Fargo, North Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Puryear on June 20, 1929, at Capa, South Dakota.  They farmed and ranched northeast of Midland all their married life.

His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death on March 22, 1987, and soon after he moved to Fort Pierre, South Dakota, where he made his home with his daughter, Wynn Bergeson.

He was a member of the St. William's Catholic Church of Midland.

Grateful for having shared his life are his seven sons: Edward Jr. and Benjamin, both of Holabird, South Dakota; Joseph of Des Moines, Iowa; Leo of Little Fork, Minnesota; Anthony of Gillette, Wyoming; and Michael and Mark, both of Midland, South Dakota; ten daughters: Elizabeth VanderMay of Longvalley, South Dakota; Nora Wyman of Reno, Nevada; Sister Edna Nemec of Watertown, South Dakota; Frances Terkildsen of Kadoka, South Dakota; Wynn Bergeson of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; Pauline Bruce of Hayes, South Dakota; Christine Ryan of Tolna, North Dakota; Audrey Jones of Midland, South Dakota; Bernadette Knox of Highmore, South Dakota; and Rita Foreng of McVille, North Dakota; 95 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Nemec of Midland, South Dakota; one sister, Ellen Tolton of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; one daughter in infancy; his parents; and three brothers, Charles, Emil, and Jerome Nemec.
