Annette A. Lathrop, better known as "Babe" to her family and friends, was born July 23, 1909, on a farm north of Quinn, South Dakota, to Alvin and Kitty (Childs) Lathrop.
She grew up and attended elementary schools in the Peno Basin area and attended high school in Rapid City, South Dakota. She worked in the O'Dea Country Store north of Quinn, South Dakota.
Babe was united in marriage to Fay Coleman on October 19, 1927, at Rapid City, South Dakota.
The couple owned and operated a farm and ranch in the Grindstone area until Fay Coleman's death on November 28, 1961. Babe continued to live on the ranch until 1980, when she moved to the Prairie Village Apartments in Wall. She later moved into the Philip Nursing Home in November 1987.
She attended the Wall United Methodist Church, was a member of the Wall Senior Citizens, the Grindstone Women's Club, and the Farmers Union.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Coleman and Alvin Colemen, both of Seattle, Washington, and Marvin Coleman of Cottonwood, South Dakota; three daughters, Mrs. Myrna (James) Gottsleben of Philip, Mrs. Alice (Donald) Bowman of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, and Mrs. Patty (Wallace) Aashiem of Seattle, Wahington; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Lathrop of Sacramento, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay, three brothers, and three sisters.
