Frederick W. Lewis

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Thursday, July 31, 1986
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 83

Frederick W. Lewis, better known as "Fred" to his family and friends, was born March 7, 1903, at Rothsay, Minnesota, to Robert Fern and Emma (Furnas) Lewis.

When he was eleven days old his mother died.  He lived with his father in Minnesota, Iowa, and Oregon before his father homesteaded in the Creighton, South Dakota, area in 1908.

Fred attended grade school at Creighton and high school in Rapid City.

He was united in marriage to Eunice Wood on September 29, 1928, in Sturgis, South Dakota.  They lived on a farm near Creighton until moving into Wall in 1930.

Fred operated the star mail route between Wall and Pedro.  Later he and his wife owned and operated a service station and store, and an implement and trucking business in Wall.

In 1947 they moved to the Townview Farm northwest of Wall.  They semi-retired in the late 1970's.

They moved to Westhills Village Retirement Home in Rapid City in October of 1984, while continuing to live part-time at the Townview Farm.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Crescent Masonic Lodge #210, A.F. & A.M. of which he had been worshipful master, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Odd Fellows, all of Wall.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Eunice, of Wall and Rapid City; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl.
