June E. Carstensen was born to Nels and Ethel Carstensen on June 1, 1911,in Philip, South Dakota. She attendeed school and grew up in the Grindstone community northwest of Philip. She later attended business college in Mitchell, South Dakota.
June was united in marriage to Harry Newman on Jun 15, 1935, in Philip, South Dakota. Following marriage they moved to a ranch eight miles southwest of Philip where the couple farmed and ranched.
June was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran L.W.M.L., the Bad River Senior Citizens, and the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Newman of Philip, and Paul Newman of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Carstensen of Philip; one sister, Helen Griggs of Englewood, Floriada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 1971, one daughter, Marjorie Sweezy, and one grandchild.
A memorial has been established.
