Stanley Evans was born March 23, 1904, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Charles and Susan Evans. He grew up on the family homestead on Plum Creek south of Hayes. As a young man, he worked for the Diamond A. Cattle Company.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Johnson in 1927 at Atlantic, Iowa. They ran a hotel in Hayes, South Dakota, for several years until his parents moved to Fort Pierre. They then moved to the family homestead where he farmed and ranched. He was also in the trucking business. He was foreman for the Sodak Cattle Company for nine years. They moved to Hayes in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of Hayes; two sons, George of Isabel, and Robert of Midland; two daughters, Jean Telford of Bethel Island, California, and Betty Shannon of Pierre; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by one son, four brothers, two sisters, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
