Oscar Keller

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, September 13, 1985
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 74

Oscar H. Keller was born July 24, 1911, in Kulm, North Dakota, to Henry and Emila (Steindwand) Keller. He grew up and received his education in Kulm. As a young man, he and his father owned and operated a truck line in Kulm.

Oscar was united in marriage to Ruth Jerke on December 16, 1934, in Kulm. They lived on a farm near Kulm, and he continued to truck until he became employed with R.E.A. in Kulm in 1938.

When the R.E.A. came into the Philip area in the fall of 1951, he was transferred and worked as an electrician bringing electricity to the Philip area. When the job was completed in 1952, Oscar became employed with the city of Philip, and worked in the city street and water department, which he later became superintendent of both. As a side job, Oscar was a self-employed plumber, and traveled the radius of 50 miles doing commercial and residential plumbing.

Oscar and Ruth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January of 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Keller, of Philip; three daughters, Jean Weller, of Kadoka, Della Sargent, of Kansas City, Missouri, and June Hout, of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
