"Alice" Paul was born Sarah Alice Paul on February 23, 1922 in Hyde County, Highmore, South Dakota, the daughter of Edward Elias and Mary Amelia (Schurmacher) Paul.

Alice grew up and received her education in the Highmore area.

On September 13, 1943, Alice was united in marriage to Thomas Michael Enger at Highmore, South Dakota. To this union were born three children, Robert, Thomas and Marilyn.

They farmed in the Highmore area until they moved to Belle Fourche in 1951. They lived in the Belle Fourche area until moving to Casper, Wyoming in 1960.

Her husband Thomas preceded her in death in 1963.

In 1964, Alice and the children moved to Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, where they lived until Alice married Edwin William "Ed" Biermann on May 2, 1966. She then moved to Midland where she helped Ed operate a dirt moving construction business and a trucking business. In 1972, they bid on and received a HCR Mail Route to operate. After the death of her husband Ed in May 1990, she continued to operate the mail route until her health failed and her daughter took over in 1991. She continued to live in Midland with her son Bob and wife Karen "Cricket" until she moved to Philip in January 1993 to live with her daughter Marilyn and husband Dan Uhrig. She continued to live with them until July 1995 when she moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where she has since resided.

Alice had a great love of life, and lived for her family without reservation. She would do anything she could for any or all of them without complaints. She loved doing craft work, including crocheting and plastic canvas. She also made many quilts, and also made afghans that she donated occasionally to the Senior Citizen’s Center of Midland to be raffled off to benefit the center and other places.

Grateful for having shared her life are one son, Bob and his wife Cricket of Midland; one daughter Marilyn and her husband Dan Uhrig of Philip; twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three sisters Mary Rognstad and husband Sverre, Deloris Olson and her husband Bernard "Bud" all of Madison, and Dorothy DeAngelo and her friend Wayne of Sargents, Colorado; one brother Edward Paul and his wife Donna of Wiggins, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her first husband Thomas Enger in 1963, and second husband Edwin Biermann in 1990, Alice was preceded in death by her son Thomas Enger, her parents, and a sister Patricia Beck.

Alice died Monday morning, June 24, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital at the age of 80.
