Berniece's Register Book Berniece's Flowers Back to Obituaries Berniece Jensen, age 95, of Philip, died Wednesday evening, August 15, 2007, at the Philip Nursing Home. Berniece Reedy was born May 6, 1912 at Winthrop, Iowa, the daughter of James and Catherine (Huston) Reedy. As a young lady she moved with her parents and family to a ranch in the Elbon community north of Philip, South Dakota. She graduated from Philip High School in 1931 and then attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Rapid City for eighteen months. Berniece made her home with her Aunt Julia Kane in Media, Illinois, where she worked as a nurse until 1937 when she moved back to Philip. While in Philip, she worked as a nurse in the old Philip Hospital and later for the doctor in the Philip Clinic. Berniece was united in marriage to Carl James Jensen on February 8, 1950, at Philip. They made their home on Nels Jensen’s homestead northwest of Philip, which they operated all their married life. After Carl’s death on January 16, 1967, Berniece moved into Philip, where she has since resided. In 1980, Berniece sold the homestead to Mick Mortellaro. Berniece was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Evening Guild. Grateful for having shared her life are a sister-in-law Emmie Reedy; her many nieces and nephews in the Jensen, Hart, and Reedy families; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Carl, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Huston Reedy and John J. Reedy; and three sisters Veronica Hart and two sisters in infancy. Visitation was held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip. Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant, and Father Tony Grossenburg as con-celebrant.
