Bertha A. Ainsworth, age 61, of Wall, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Bertha A. Syers was born January 24, 1946, at Munising, Michigan, the daughter of Oatis and Lilllie (Overturf) Syers.  Her father worked for the railroad, and they made their home in many states before moving to western South Dakota.

Bertha was united in marriage to Carl Ainsworth on October 5, 1962, in Sturgis.  They made their home in the northern Black Hills until the mid 1990's, when they moved to Wall.

While in Wall she worked as a cook for the Elkton House Restaurant for several years.  After her husband Carl's death on October 3, 2000, she continued to reside in Wall.  She then worked as a clerk at the Wildlife Wax Museum until August 5, 2007.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and tending to her flower gardens, but was especially fond of her two cats, Harry and Gabby, which she treasured very much.

Grateful for having shared her life include three daughters Angy Smyle and her husband Frank of Rapid City, Evelyn Borko and her husband Dan "Ed" of Elemendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, and Carla Ainsworth of California; one son Everett Ainsworth of Wall; seven grandchildren; Sheshawn Wilkes, Paul and Jacob Borko, Madison Smyle,  Elizabeth Ainsworth, Cole Ainsworth, and Nathan Woods; one sister Rosetta West and friend Richard Thomas of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Carl, Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Glenn Syers.

Visitation was held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, at the Evangelical Free Bible Church in Wall, with Pastor Ron Burtz officiating.

Interment followed at the Boneita Springs Cemetery, nine miles south of Enning.

In lieu of flowers a memorial is established to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
