Beryl “Bud” Allen was born November 15, 1918, in a house his father built in Ansley, Nebraska, the son of Peter G. and Agnes (Duncanson) Allen. As a child the family lived on a farm in the Ansley area and a ranch in the Burwell, Nebraska area. In 1926, the family moved to a farm east of Longvalley in Washabaugh County. He completed his education in that community. As a young man he worked for his parents and Maurice and Mae Handcock for several years. In 1940, he and Carson Dithmer moved to California to work on the railroad. After Pearl Harbor they returned to the Longvalley area to sign up for the military, but because of a health issue he was not eligible to serve.
Bud was united in marriage to Geraldine Susie Terkildsen on October 31, 1942, in Kadoka, South Dakota. They lived on his parents’ farm for four years before purchasing a farm-ranch north of his parents. He and his brother Wayne owned dirt moving equipment and built many dams in South Dakota. In 1968, they moved to Kadoka but continued to operate the farm. In the early 1970’s, he started a rural mail route from Kadoka to Hisle. He continued this until retiring in 1986. They have since made their home in Kadoka.
Bud was a member of the Kadoka Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Kadoka Lions Club. He also served on the Washabaugh County School Board for many years.  He and his neighbor Carson built and maintained the telephone line from Plainview Area School to Kadoka. He also maintained county roads. Bud was an avid baseball fan and was a baseball umpire in the Longvalley area for many years.
Grateful for having shared his life include his wife Geraldine of Kadoka; one son Clarence Allen and his wife Nancy of Martin; three daughters Patsy Larson of Gillette, Wyoming, Janis Perkins of Denver, Colorado, and Wilma Tope and her husband Jay of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister Ruth Schreiner of Wray, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Wayne C. and Orval P. Allen; and one sister Lulu Hyatt.
Visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Interment was in the Kadoka Cemetery.
A memorial is established.
