Dean Alden Blom was born January 14,1930, in Chamberlain, South Dakota, the son of Jake and Letha "Thomas" Blom. He grew up and received his education in the Belvidere area, graduating from Belvidere High School in 1948.

After graduation, he started carpentry work with Keith Brakke in the Kadoka area.

He entered into the United States Army on November 6, 1951. He was stationed in Germany, with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Armored Cavalry.

He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1953.

After his discharge he returned to Belvidere and continued working with Keith Brakke in the construction business.

He was united in marriage to Rita Walker on August 9, 1957 in Philip, South Dakota.

After their marriage they continued to reside in Belvidere, and Dean became self-employed in the construction business, building houses in the Belvidere, Kadoka, Murdo, and White River area.

In 1981 Rita and Dean bought the Double H café in Belvidere which they owned and operated, in addition to Dean’s construction business.

In 1984 they moved the café to White River, and renamed it to the Frontier Café, where they resided for five years. While in White River, Dean also did carpentry work in the area.

In 1989, they sold the café and moved back to Belvidere.

Later they bought the Jim Barr farm-ranch northeast of Belvidere which they operated and where they have since resided.

Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed living and operating the farm-ranch, and had a passion for carpentry.

Dean was a member of the Pedersen-Stoddard American Legion Post #144 of Belvidere.

Grateful for having shared his life are is wife Rita Blom of Belvidere; a son Mike Blom and his wife Linda of White River, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Jacob Blom of Parker, and Spencer and Kaitlyn Blom of White River; two brothers, Pete Blom and his wife Virginia of Wall, South Dakota, and Willis Blom and his wife Charlotte of Philip; and one sister Lorraine Mundt and her husband Phil of Lago Vista, Texas.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shannon Blom, and one sister, Ilene Kimball.

Dean A. Blom, age 72, of Belvidere, South Dakota died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the Fort Meade V.A. Medical Center.

Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Belvidere Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.

Interment with military honors by the Pedersen-Stoddard American Legion Post #144 of Belvidere was in the Belvidere Cemetery.

A memorial is established.
