Frances A. Brech, age 90, of New Underwood, formerly of Philip, died Monday, August 28, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

Frances A. Arionus was born March 3, 1916, on a farm near Emery, South Dakota, the daughter of Bernard and Florence (Ames) Arionus. In 1920, she moved with her parents and two brothers to a farm six miles southwest of Cottonwood, South Dakota. She grew up and attended rural school there.

Frances was united in marriage to Joseph Brech, Jr. on September 17, 1934, at St. Columbia Catholic Church in Cottonwood. They made their home in Cottonwood. Joe worked for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad so they made their home on various places along the rail line, which included Van Meter, Wasta, Hermosa, and Wall, prior to moving to Philip in 1972. Frances worked for Hubbard Mill in Wall as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1974. In 1982 they moved to Rapid City.

Her husband Joseph preceded her in death on December 16, 1986. She continued to reside in Rapid City, until 1995 when she moved to Sunny Haven at New Underwood.  In January 1997 she moved into the Good Samaritan Center.

Frances was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in New Underwood, a former member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the Church Circle of Rapid City.  While in Philip, Frances was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Evening Guild Tribe #4 of Philip. She was a volunteer for the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.

Grateful for having shared her life include her son Lynn Brech and his wife Rose of Sioux Falls; two daughters Lorraine Brooks and her husband Robert of Rapid City, and Joanne Bloom of Rapid City; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers , Dale Arionus of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Edward "Bud" Arionus and his wife Grace of Seguin, Texas; three sisters Dorothy Kile of Black Duck, Minnesota, Lila Kreutz of Long Beach, California, and Zelda Perez and her husband Tino of Rio Linda, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Joseph, Frances was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Joseph, Lyman and Leonard Arionus; and one sister Eleanor Gunderson.

Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant

Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.

A memorial is established.
