Margaret L. Barrett, age 94, of Kadoka, formerly of Belvidere, died Thursday morning, October 11, 2007, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Margaret L. Briggs was born August 3, 1913, in Durango, Colorado, the daughter of Floyd and Faye (Scott) Briggs.  As a child she moved with her parents to Kadoka.  She grew up and graduated from Kadoka High School.

Margaret was united in marriage to John F. Barrett on June 22, 1933, in Belvidere.  They worked as ranch hands in Pennington, Haakon, and Jackson Counties.  In 1944, they purchased and operated a ranch northwest of Belvidere, which they continued to operate until 1976, when they sold part of the ranch but continued to live there.  They spent their winter months in Mesa, Arizona and summers at the ranch.  In 1989, Margaret and John moved into the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka.  After John's death on December 19, 1991, she moved to the Kadoka Nursing Home, where she has since resided.

Survivors include her daughter Marcia Osborn and her husband Lewis of Granbury, Texas; two granddaughters Kimberly Wolk and her husband Dana of Sammamish, Washington, and Kelly O'Brien of Rapid City; four great-grandchildren Taylor Wolk, Maggie Wolk, Kristin O'Brien, and Karli O'Brien; her sister Joyce Hicks of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband John, Margaret was preceded in death by; her son Thomas Lyle Barrett in infancy; her parents; and two brothers Clifford and Buford Briggs.

Visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, at the Belvidere Community Church with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.

Interment will be in the Belvidere Cemetery.

A memorial is established to the Kadoka Nursing Home.
