In memory of

Katherine "Kathy" Pfeifle

of Aberdeen, South Dakota, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at her home in Aberdeen at the age of 64

Katherine Margaret Patton was born in Pierre, S.D. on November 18, 1942, to Mabel (Grotta) and Patrick Patton. Kathy grew up on a farm seven miles east of Philip and attended grade school and high school in Philip. Kathy graduated from Philip High School in 1961. After high school she went on to attend college at BHSU in Spearfish for a semester. Prior to returning to Philip, she spent several years in California where her first son Steve was born.

Kathy was united in marriage to Ray Pfeifle on Jan 21st, 1967, in Philip, S.D. and to this union were born five children; Cindy, Randy, Debbi, Pam and Mark Allen. Kathy worked at many cafes and several local businesses. She was also head cook at the Philip school for several years. Kathy then went on to own and operate the Star Drive Inn Cafe with her husband, Ray. Most recently, Kathy worked at the Sale Barn Cafe until her health began to decline. In 2003, Kathy and Ray moved to Aberdeen, S.D. to be closer to their family.

Kathy was an active community member. She volunteered many hours for local activities and was involved with the Scottie booster club. Kathy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as president in 1984-85.

Kathy was an active follower of her children’s activities and attended many sporting events and school functions. While her children were in school, she was an avid Scotties fan, involving herself in the many sporting activities. Kathy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Kathy was always noted for her thoughtfulness, cheerful attitude, sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Ray of Aberdeen; their children Steve of California, Cindy Coughlin and her husband Chris of Freehold, New Jersey, Randy Pfeifle and his wife Lisa of Edgerton, Minnesota, Debbi Bumpous and her husband Jeff of Aberdeen, and Pam Pfeifle of Aberdeen, eight grandchildren, Nicole and Abbey Coughlin, Nick and Nathan Pfeifle, Zack and Brandon Bumpous, Shae Miller and Ethan Feist, two brothers, Philip Patton of Orange City, Iowa, and Bill Patton and his wife Lois of Missoula, Montana; two sisters, Patty Fonseca of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Thelma Heltzel of Philip; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Patrick Patton, one son, Mark Allen in infancy, one sister, Irene Stoeser, two brothers, John and Robert Patton, two nieces, Linda Stoeser and Laurie Dalton (Patton), two nephews, Pat Heltzel and Jake Pfeifle, four brother-in-laws, Ralph Fonseca, Albert Pfeifle, Alex Stoeser and Jim Heltzel and one sister-in-law, Marty Patton (Hutt).

Visitation was held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Monty Dell officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established to the Aberdeen Hospice, 305 S. State St. Aberdeen, SD 57401.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
