A true cowboy and friend
It’s not the end of the trail for me,
I’m just heading for the light I see.
Beyond Eagle’s Nest there’s a soft glow;
It’s getting bright the closer I go.
It’s like the beginning of a new day,
I’m riding Pokey and he knows the way.
I feel sure there’s friends and family ahead,
And they’ve set camp on a brand new spread.
Yep, I can hear their voices callin’ my name,
Saying “Howdy, Irven, sure glad you came,
This new range is special; you’ll like it here,
There’s grass for your horses and the water is clear,
The cattle are gentle and never stampede,
And in every direction there’s plenty of feed.
If you’re thinking it sounds too good to be true,
It’s cause the Boss made a promise to you.
If you ride for his brand, be honest and square,
He’d relieve all your pain, and remove all care
He was mighty pleased with your life on earth,
That you did your best, and proved your worth.
So step off your horse and tie up.
Your friends are waiting to pour you a cup.
“We’ll talk about old days, as time allows,
‘cause startin tomorrow you’ll be working cows.”
Donita Denke

  • Ardis and family, we sure enjoyed getting to know you folks better after moving to Kadoka. The special bond was that old sleigh Irven bought from my dad, Wayne Fairchild. It brought a bigger smile telling how much he cherished it and the sleigh rides with the family. Also, the chuckle about buying a pickup with a 31 license so folks would wave at you. We learn courage from those that battle with cancer and those that care for that person. You are in our thoughts and prayers. It is not possible for everyone to have "Great Intellect", but it is possible to have a "Great Heart and Love". That Irven had. ~ Marsha and Bill Sumpter Kadoka (1/7/2011)
