In memory of

Robert D. "Bob" Kellogg

of Rapid City, South Dakota, died on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Brian's House in Bay City, Michigan at the age of 83

Bob was born on Jan. 14, 1927 at Hilland, South Dakota the son of Martin and Talitha Belle (Mason) Kellogg. After graduating high school he served two years in the U S Army, in Korea. Upon returning to South Dakota, he ranched with his father. He married Nellie Foley on May 22, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, SD. They moved to Rapid City where he began his 35 year career as a carpenter. Bob joined the Knights of Columbus in Rapid City.
Bob and Nellie moved the family to Iowa, living there for five years, then on to Michigan in 1972. In 1974 he was initiated into the Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus and became an active member of the Color Corps. Bob retired in 1989.
Bob was a member of Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church and the Father Labory Knights of Columbus. With his wife Nellie, he was an active member of the Northern Bay-Arenac Retired School Personnel where they were instrumental in establishing a scholarship fund for students from the area.
Bob enjoyed woodworking his entire life. He and Nellie traveled far and wide across the US to square dance. They also had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Ireland. As his last wish, they visited Niagara Falls in August, 2010.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nellie, son, Charles Kellogg of Miami, FL., daughter, Sheila Kellogg of Raleigh, NC, and two brothers-in-law, Tom (Ann) Foley of Philip, SD, Carl (Mary) Foley of Sacramento, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and his two sisters and their husbands, Mildred and Douglas Cattles and Bernice and Louis Peddicord.
A rosary was conducted by the Knights of Columbus at the R. O. Savage Funeral Chapel the evening of October 7, 2010. A Color Corps guard was present for the rosary. The Knights presented the family with a challis which will be engraved with his name. The challis will be given to a Catholic priest in Ireland.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on October 8, 2010 at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Standish, MI with Fr James Fitzpatrick officiating.
Graveside rites will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip, with Father Kevin Achbach officiating.
Interment with military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #173 of Philip.

Graveside services:  10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

  • Although I didn't know Bob, I DID know his mother, Belle, as I boarded out with her my freshman year in high school in 1969-1970. She was a great lady and I'm sure she passed many of her fine attributes on to Bob. My best to all of you and God bless you.
