of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City at the age of 64
Jerry Lee Gibson was born May 20, 1947, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the son of George A. and Viola M. (Pothoff) Gibson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. He grew up and attended elementary school in Norris. He attended Kadoka High School, graduating in 1966. As a young man, he worked as a bookkeeper for Stanley Jeffords in the Manufactured Home Sales in Kadoka. In the early 1980’s, Jerry and his mother moved to Rapid City. When in Rapid City, he worked as a recorder for the South Dakota Archeologist Society for several years.
Due to failing health, Jerry retired in the early 1990’s. He moved into the Golden Living Center Black Hills in 2009 where he remained until July 2011, when he moved to Philip.
Survivors include two brothers Bernard Gibson and his wife Carol of Rapid City, and Ray Gibson and his wife Karen of Philip; two sisters Lillian Michaels of Sedro Woolley, Washington, and Mary Paola and her husband Gene of McMinnville, Oregon; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother George; a brother-in-law Ross Michaels; and a nephew Shayne Gibson.
Closed-casket visitation preceded the services on Tuesday.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Kevin Achbach as celebrant. Interment followed the reception, at the Kadoka Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
