In memory of

Kathryn Piroutek

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, June 9, 2000 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 86

Kathryn A. Kertzman was born June 21, 1913, in Haakon County, north of Philip in the Topbar community, the daughter of William (W.H.) and Angela (Griffin) Kertzman.

She grew up and received part of her education in Milesville before attending Mount Marty High School in Yankton.

After her mother was diagnosed with polio, she helped raise her brothers and sisters.

Kathryn was united in marriage to Allen H. Piroutek on June 4, 1936, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milesville.

They made their home in Belvidere for 10 years, until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Milesville.  They continued to make their home in Milesville where her husband was the Postmaster until 1977, when they moved into Philip where they had built a new home.

After her husband's death on February 12, 1988, she continued to make her home in Philip.

Kathryn was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and presently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Philip.  She served on the Evening Guild and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Joe Piroutek and his wife, Helen, of Irvine, California, Gary Piroutek and his wife, Rita, of Sturgis, and Dan Piroutek and his wife Gayla, of Milesville; three daguthers, Mary Ann George and her husband, Dan, of Carlsbud, California, Kay Turvey and her husband, Allen, of LeSueur, Minnesota, and Phyllis Hinman and her husband, Rod, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lou Kertzman and his wife, Jo, of Rapid City; and a sister, Mary Koenig and her husband, Gene, of Denver, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, Allen H. Piroutek, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Lee Piroutek; a grandson, Charles Ruud; her parents; and three brothers, John, Hubert "Hugh" and Paul Kertman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Philip Hospital or your favorite charity.
