In memory of

Ida McClure

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 31, 1998 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 87

Ida A. Sieler was born September 22, 1910, on her parents' homestead in the Peno Basin area, 12 miles northeast of Quinn, South Dakota, the daughter of Heinrich and Kathryn (Knodel) Sieler.

She grew up on the farm and received her elementary education in the Peno Basin Rural School.  She attended high school in Richfield, Idaho, and Quinn prior to graduating in 1928 from Tripp High School, Tripp, South Dakota, as valedictorian of her class, as well as receiving the Ideal Student Award.  She then attended Northern State Normal in Aberdeen, where she received her first grade teaching certificate.  Ida taught rural school in Haakon County, four years in the Grindstone Rural School, and one year at the Deadman Rural School.

She was united in marriage to Alvin McClure on June 6, 1934, at Saco, Montana.  They made their home in Malta, Montana, where her husband was working on the construction of the Ft. Peck Dam.  Later they returned to the Grindstone area where they farmed and raised turkeys and made enough money to move to Seattle, Washington, in 1941.

In 1945, they returned to the Grindstone area, where they farmed.  In 1949, they purchased the McClure Homestead, which they operated until retiring in 1975 and selling the farm to their daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Fred McDaniel.

After her husband, Alvin's death on May 24, 1977, she continued to reside on the farm until moving into Philip in the early 1980s.

Ida was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Bad River Senior Citizens, and the Grindstone Women's Club.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Beverly I. McDaniel of Quinn, Audrey A. Albitre of Bakersfield, California, and Melva M. Maddalena of Alturas, California; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ann Sieler of Wall; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Alvin, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Edwin, Henry, Emil, and Harold; and a sister, Bethina Denke Sallee.
