of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, December 27, 1997 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 74
Rosemary Holocek, better known as "Rosie" to her family and friends, was born November 8, 1923, at Niobrara, Nebraska, the daughter of Anton and Emma (Benda) Holocek.
She grew up in the Verdigre, Nebraska, area and graduated from Verdigre High School.
Rosemary was united in marriage to Alvin M. "Al" Reckling on November 20, 1946, at Winner, South Dakota.
The family moved to Philip in 1947, where they have since resided. While in Philip, Rosemary worked as a clerk for the Philip Pharmacy. On May 1, 1964, she started working as a bookkeeper for West Central Electric, a position she held for 25 years before retiring on December 21, 1990.
Her husband, Al, preceded her in death in 1980.
Rosie continued to make her home in Philip. Rosemary was a member of the First Lutheran Church and served as president of the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Philip Chapter #100.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Randy Reckling of Philip, Steve Reckling of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Robert Reckling of Philip; 10 grandchildren, Brian Reckling, Kimberly Pratchios, Sanna Reckling, Ryon Reckling, Brady Reckling, Andrew Reckling, Melissa Reckling, Matthew Reckling, Ashley Reckling, and Marlis Reckling; one great-granddaughter, Alexa Daryn Pratchios; six brothers, Jim Holocek of Niobrara, Nebraska; Frank Holocek of Creighton, Nebraska; Foy Holocek of Cleveland, Mississippi; Adolph Holocek of Florida; George Holocek of Nebraska; and Elmer Holocek of Verdigre, Nebraska; three sisters, Sally Slechta of Creighton, Nebraska; Ellsie Olson of Creighton, Nebraska; and Helen Franek of Verdigre, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Alvin Reckling, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Darrin Reckling; her parents; and one brother, John Holocek.
A memorial has been established.
