In memory of

Gilbert A. Rodgers

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Thursday, October 29, 1992 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 73

Gilbert A. Rodgers, better known as "Gib" to his family and friends, was born July 13, 1917, at Sac City, Iowa, to Alexander and Hazel (Mastelleur) Rodgers.

As a child he moved with his parents to the Vivian, South Dakota, area where they resided for about five years before moving to Okaton, South Dakota, where he grew up and received his education.  As a young man he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad.

He was united in marriage to Jessie L. Hempstead on September 4, 1936, at Murdo, South Dakota.

Because of his railroad work, they lived in various towns between Rapid City and Mitchell, South Dakota, with Belvidere being the longest place of residence.  In 1968 he was promoted to roadmaster, which required them to move to Mason City, Iowa, where they resided until 1972 when they moved to Kadoka, South Dakota, where he continued to be roadmaster until retiring from the railroad in 1977 after 43 years of service.

They continued to make their home in Kadoka where Gib was active in ranching and custom haying until his death.

He attended the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jessie L. Rodgers, of Kadoka; three sons, Richard Rodgers of Lander, Wyoming, John Rodgers of Kadoka, and Gib G. Rodgers of Wessington, South Dakota; four daughters: Carol (Mrs. Darrell) Iwan of Hawthorne, Nevada; Darlene (Mrs. Clinton) Schnee of Kadoka; Lana (Mrs. Andrew) Sherburne of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Diana (Mrs. Craig) Coller of Kadoka; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cordella Purser and Maxine Belcher, both of Tucson, Arizona, and Gladys Moross and Violet Hanthorne, both of Yakima, Washington; one half-sister, Donna Rae Montgomery of Mesa, Airzona; and a host of other relatives and friends.
