of Milesville, South Dakota, died on Friday, February 12, 1988 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 78
Allen, oldest of three children, was born August 30, 1909, at Belvidere, South Dakota, to Joseph V. and Christina (Welfl) Piroutek. He graduated from Belvidere High School in 1926 at the age of sixteen.
Allen taught country school for two years before becoming a cashier at the Belvidere State Bank, a position he held for seventeen years.
Allen was united in marriage to Kathryn Kertzman on June 4, 1936, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milesville, South Dakota. They made their home in Belvidere for ten years, until 1946 when they moved to Milesville to farm.
Allen was postmaster in Milesville for 20 years until he retired on August 25, 1979. In 1977, they built a house and moved to Philip, a home they shared until his recent hospitalization.
He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Milesville and presently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Philip.
Allen served on the Milesville and Belvidere School Boards for many years. He served on the Philip Hospital Board, the Milesville Hall Board, the local Draft Board, and as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kathryn; four sons, Joe of Granada Hills, California, Gary of Sturgis, South Dakota, Lee of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Dan of Milesville; three daughters, Mary Ann George of Carlsbad, California, Kay Ruud of LeSueur, Minnesota, and Phyllis Piroutek of Torrington, Wyoming; one sister, Lillian Miller of Rapid City; 13 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jack; his grandson, Charles Ruud; and his sister, Evelyn Piroutek.
