In memory of

Darrel Peterson

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, after a short battle with ALS at the age of 65

Darrel G. Peterson was born November 19, 1949, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the son of James E. and Lucile (Dean) Peterson. He grew up on a ranch east of Philip, and attended Magnuson rural school. He attended Philip High School, graduating in 1969 and then attended Black Hills State College. He later joined his brothers and father on the ranch.

He was united in marriage to Anita Paulsen on December 27, 1972 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, and to this union were born five children, Dustin, Michael, Landon, Kelsie and Ashlee. They made their home at the ranch east of Philip all their married life.

Darrel devoted his life to his children and to the ranch. Later in life, his best enjoyment was watching his children and grandchildren participate in all their activities. Darrel enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing, especially with his college buddy, Casey.

Survivors include his wife Anita of Philip; five children Dustin Peterson and his wife Carmen of Sioux Falls, Michael Peterson and his wife Tanya of Philip, Landon Peterson of Philip, Kelsie Naescher and her husband Darin of Philip, and Ashlee Peterson of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; two brothers Gary Peterson and his wife Joel of Faith, and Roger Peterson and his wife Kathy of Philip; one sister Doreen Olson and her husband Bob of Austin, Texas; his mother-in-law Edith Paulsen of Wall; his brother-in-law Kevin Paulsen and his wife Terry of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents James and Lucile Peterson; and his father-in-law Raynold Paulsen.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Father Kevin Achbach officiating.

Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
