In memory of

Ivan Eisenbraun

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Hospice House in Rapid City at the age of 92

Ivan was welcomed back into the arms of his heavenly father October 22, 2022.


Ivan Robert Eisenbraun was born on July 10,1930 to Herbert and Emma L. (Willuweit) Eisenbraun, on the homestead northeast of Creighton, SD. He was the 4th of 10 children.

Ivan was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The foundation of his Christian faith was done in the German language. His faith was the most important thing to Ivan his entire life. He moved with his family to a ranch on the Cheyenne River in 1939.

His early adult life was spent helping his father on the ranch. He excelled at training horses. He later worked for several ranchers in the area before moving into Wall, SD. In Wall he worked for the Tri-State Elevator, Wall Drug, and helped maintain the Wall Cemetery.

He had a talent for braiding, which he started doing at 4 when his mother gave him bailing twine to keep him busy. He enjoyed gardening, and was a dedicated member of the First Lutheran church in Wall. He had a German pen pal for many years. He and Helmut Eisenbraun exchanged letters each doing so in German.

His last years were spent living in Silver Leaf assisted living in Philip, SD, and Fairmont Grand assisted living in Rapid City, SD.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and some of their spouses. Betty (Erving) Helms, Annette (Willie) Geigle, Delbert (Karen) Eisenbraun, Ester (Guy) Carsten, Les Eisenbraun, and Hebert Eisenbraun.

He is survived by, his sister Wanda Goodrich, (Steve) Rapid City. A brother Andrew (Linda), Rapid City, and another brother Paul (Kathy) Columbus, Indiana. Sister in laws, Marian Eisenbraun, Riverside California, and Janet Eisenbraun, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be at 9AM, one hour before the service, on October 29,2022, at 10 AM, at the First Lutheran Church in Wall.

Burial will take place at the Wall cemetery with a luncheon to follow.


A memorial has been established to the Hospice House in Rapid City.

  • Uncle Ivan was a great man. I will never forget how him and I would play cribbage, cut trees , and we drank coffee and we talked ALOT about his garden and how to cut trees.
