In memory of

Ardis Ladely

of Long Valley, South Dakota, died on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 83

Ardis (Allard) Ladely was born May 7th, 1938, in Long Valley, SD the daughter of Carl and Della (Weisenberger) Allard. She grew up on the ranch in Long Valley and attended Martin High School. She went on to attend college at Ogalala Lakota College and soon after received her Librarian Certificate from Northern State University.

Ardis was united in marriage to Irven Ladely on June 20th, 1955, in Hot Springs, SD where they made their home near the Bob Pick Ranch. They then moved on to work on the Hewitt Ranch near Valentine, Nebraska for four years, prior to moving to the Carl Allard Ranch near Long Valley, SD. In 1979, Irven and she purchased the Steinmeyer Ranch southwest of Long Valley which she continued to operate after Irven’s death in 2011.

As well as helping out on the ranch, Ardis stayed busy working or volunteering her time in many different organizations. In 1993 she began working at the Library in Martin, SD where she became the Head Librarian and retired on Dec. 2nd, 2005. You would often see her in the bleachers watching and cheering on her grandchildren in their many activities.

Grateful for having shared her life are husband, Irven Ladely of Long Valley; three daughters, Vicky Ladely, Floydeen Buchholz and her husband Bill of Kadoka; Kyla Medley and her husband Mike of Hermosa, SD and a son, James Ladely of West Moreland, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Latasha Buchholz, Candice Ireland and husband Karl, True Buchholz and wife Robin, McKenzie Medley and Garrett Medley, and a host of relatives and friends.

Ardis was preceded in death by her husband Irven on Jan 7th, 2011; daughter Victoria in 1969; her parents, Carl and Della Allard; one sister June Rose Good; and four brothers Earnest, Gene, Carl, and Allen Allard.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the New American Legion Hall in Martin with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.

Interment will follow at the Martin Community Cemetery.
