Russell Dale Spinsby was born February 8, 1951 in Philip, South Dakota to Jack and Dorothy (Dale) Spinsby. He grew up on the family farm south of Midland. He attended Stamford Country School first through eighth grade and attended high school in Midland where he graduated in 1970.

Russell worked as a truck driver for various companies as well as laying rebar and other work on Interstate 90 when it was being built.

He was united in marriage to Gay Wellman on October 23, 1971, in Midland. They made their home on the ranch 12 miles south of Midland all their married life.

Russell enjoyed fast muscle cars, old rock-n-roll music, and John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed watching classic western movies and, of course, anything John Wayne related. One of Russell’s greatest pleasures was spending time with family and playing cards with them.

Survivors include two children Casey Spinsby and his wife Janette of Medanales, New Mexico and Marty Spinsby of Mitchell; stepdaughter Kelly Van Handel and her husband Larry of New London, Wisconsin; four grandchildren Xavier and Yesenia Spinsby and Charles and Aria Spinsby; two step-grandchildren Mollie and Hattie Berndt; one sister Dianne (Bob) Bork of Murdo; a special nephew Matthew (Emily) Bork and their two girls Allison and Cheyenne; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gay on May 26, 2023; and his parents.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. (MDT) Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Rush Funeral Home in Philip.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. (CDT) Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery south of Midland with Pastor Gregory Hinners officiating.
