In memory of

Betty Sinkey

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Scotchman Living Center in Philip at the age of 88

Betty Louise (Anderson) Sinkey was born at home on September 6, 1937 on Castle Creek in the Black Hills near Custer, South Dakota, the oldest of eight children born to Philip and Esther (Frohman) Anderson.

She attended grade school at Plainview School in rural Meade County, graduating from Faith High School. In her younger years, she worked at the Howes Grocery Store, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit. She was working as a waitress in Faith, SD when she met the love of her life.

On December 4, 1954, Betty married Charles A. “Chuck” Sinkey. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and raised seven children: Duwayne, Russell, Eileen, Pamela, Dennis, Anita, and Sherri.

Throughout her life, Betty worked at various places in the Pierre, Midland, and Philip communities. She balanced many roles — working inside and outside the home, raising her family, and serving others. She especially loved baking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and she took great joy in creating things for those she loved.

Betty was a devoted member of Open Bible Church and was very active in her community. Her faith guided her life, and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness and quiet strength touched many lives.

She is survived by six children: Duwayne Sinkey (Cathy Roze) of Midland; Charles “Russ” Sinkey (Cindy) of Midland; Eileen Aberle of Sioux Falls; Pam Sinkey of Ft. Pierre; Dennis Sinkey (Cathy Johnson) of Midland; and Sherri Becker (Chris) of Faribault, Minnesota; five brothers, Carl Anderson (Patricia) of Raleigh, NC; David Anderson of Stuart OK; Roger (Susan) Anderson of Houston, TX; John (Sandra) Anderson of Laguna Hills, CA; Kelvin (Jerrie) Anderson Bowie, TX; two sisters, Charlotte James of Las Cruces, NM; Jean “Dolly” Mayville of Hamilton, VA; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Sinkey; her parents, Philip and Esther Anderson; her daughter, Anita Hamilton; grandson Tyler Reed; a brother-in-law, Leo Sinkey; and her sisters-in-law, Ann Mettler, Naomi Locke, and Sernanda Anderson.

Betty’s life was a beautiful example of love, faith, service, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Open Bible Church in Midland with Dallas McKinley officiating.

Interment will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
