Rena Nemecof Midland, South Dakota, died on Sunday, March 7, 2010

Henderena (DeYoung) Nemec better known as “Rena” to her family and friends was born September 6, 1918, the daughter of Jacob and Edith (Koenders) DeYoung in Midland, South Dakota.
She grew up on her family’s farm/ranch northwest of Midland. She attended grade school at Eureka and then graduated from Midland High School. After graduation, she received her teaching certificate from Spearfish Normal. Rena taught one year of school at Eureka Rural School north of Midland, before teaching one year at Phoeba Rural School north of Midland.
She was united in marriage to Jerome T. Nemec on May 24, 1939 in Midland, South Dakota. To this union were born five children; Jerry, Patty, Larry, Richard, and Marjorie. After their marriage they made their home on Jerome’s farm/ranch twelve miles north of Midland.
Jerome died on July 16, 1984.
Rena continued to live on the farm-ranch for several years before moving into Midland. In 1998, Rena moved into the Silverleaf Assisted Living Center in Philip and in January 2001 she moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where she has since resided.
Rena enjoyed and was a long time member of the Victory Extension Club. She also enjoyed music by listening, or playing the organ and piano. She was also a member of St. William’s Catholic Church and St. William’s Altar Society.
Rena was the last of the older Nemec generation.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Jerry Nemec and his wife Sonia of Midland, Richard Nemec of Midland, Larry Nemec and his wife Mary of Pierre, and Marjorie Iwan of Midland; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister Margaret Crawford of Pratt, Kansas; a son-in-law Jerry Henderson of Valentine, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rena was preceded in death by her husband Jerome, a daughter Patty Henderson; her parents, and three brothers, Harold, Herbert, and Richard DeYoung.
Visitation washeld 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. William's Catholic Church in Midland.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at St. William's Catholic Church in Midland, with Father Ron Garry officiating.
Interment was in the Midland Cemetery.
A memorial is established.
