Rita Marie Blom

of Belvidere, South Dakota, died on Saturday, November 2, 2002
at the Kadoka Care Center in Kadoka at the age of 63

Rita Marie Blom was born July 24, 1939, in Iona, South Dakota, the daughter of Elliot Glen and Ruth Lucille (Feyereisen) Walker. They lived in various towns in South Dakota until moving to Belvidere in 1949. She grew up in Belvidere and graduated from Belvidere High School.

Rita was united in marriage to Dean Alden Blom on August 9, 1957 in Philip, South Dakota.

They made their home in Belvidere, where they owned and operated a construction company and a drive-in restaurant. Later she worked as a teller at the Belvidere State Bank for several years.

In 1981, they purchased the Double H Cafe in Belvidere. In 1984, they moved the cafe to White River and renamed it the Frontier Cafe, which they owned and operated for five years.

In 1989, they sold the cafe and moved back to Belvidere. In the early 1990’s they purchased the Jim Barr farm/ranch northeast of Belvidere. Rita also worked as a bookkeeper for the Jackson County Highway Department, a position she held until September 16, 2002.

In 1995 they moved on to the farm/ranch where they have continued to reside.

Her husband Dean preceded her in death on April 10, 2002.

Rita was a member of the Belvidere Art Club, and the Otterman Post #94 American Legion Auxiliary of White River.

Rita always enjoyed her time with family and friends. Her favorite past times were reading, drawing and painting, and we all enjoyed her wonderful cooking. More recently her pride and joy were her grandchildren and their drawings and paintings, their hugs meant the world to her. Rita's sweet smile and quick wit will always be remembered by everyone.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son Mike Blom and his wife Linda of White River, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Jacob Blom of Parker, Spencer Blom and Kaitlyn Blom both of White River; a sister Bonnie Reed and her husband Don of Alliance, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Dean Alden Blom on April 10, 2002; a daughter Shannon Blom; and her parents; her step-father James Barr; a sister Carol Palander; and a niece Shelly Washburn.

Visitation was held on Thursday November 7th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka and one hour before the services at the church on Friday.
