David A. Hauk was born on June 20, 1951 in Wall, South Dakota to Margaret “Peggy” (Clark) and George Hauk. He attended Lincoln Grade School just north of the farm until starting high school in Philip. Dave graduated from Philip High School in 1969. Dave was the oldest of four boys, who when growing up were some of his best partners in crime. Dave attended college at Black Hills State until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1971. Basic training took him to Ft. Lewis, Washington and later to be stationed in DaNang, Vietnam until being Honorably Discharged on April 2, 1972. Dave was married to Roxanne Berry on December 14, 1974. From this union two children were born, Michael and Lisa. They ranched and worked for Philip Livestock until 1979. At which time they moved to Quinn, South Dakota and started a construction company. Dave and Roxanne continued to ranch and work in the Philip area until Dave moved to Montana in 1998. While in Montana, Dave worked for Big R in Bozeman. He took great pride in his job and a promotion came that brought him to Miles City, Montana in 1999 where he was the manager of Murdoch’s formerly Big R. He also was able to fulfill a
lifelong dream to ranch in Montana with his son Mike. He found great contentment in Eastern Montana, even though home was always Western South Dakota. Dave later worked at Cowtown Ag Supply until he decided to semi retire and be a full time Grandpa.
Dave was competitive at heart whether it be playing a game of pitch or following his Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA. He also enjoyed fishing in Alaska and shooting guns with his grandson Jaxon. Some of Dave’s greatest accomplishments were being the recipient of the Bronze Star, learning how to fly with his first solo flight in 1999 and being a Western South Dakota
Buckaroo since 1980. Some of the favorite loves in Dave’s life were his kids and grandkids, Hereford cows, and horses.
Dave was preceded in death by his father George Hauk.
Thankful for sharing his life are: his mother, Peggy Hauk of Grindstone, SD; three brothers: Doug (Fay) Hauk of Philip, SD; Dan (Cindy) Hauk of Wall, SD, Duane (J’nai) Hauk of Grindstone, SD, his son Mike (Tracy) Hauk, and grandsons Jaxon and Jhett of Miles City, MT; daughter Lisa (JD) Wendt, and granddaughters: Jaelyn, Macey and Taylor of Newell, SD; and his most special friend Linda Harwood, Miles City, MT. Dave was always pleasant to visit with whenever he'd stop in the bank. He always asked how my family was doing and always took the time to visit. I remember going over to George & Peg's with my parents when I was a little girl and I was out numbered by all the boys. We have some old home movies from the early 60's and in one of them is Dave holding me up in the air and swinging me back and forth. I was probably about a year old. Good times that I will treasure. May your memeories sustain you as you carry on his legacy. He was one of the good ones.

Mike, Lisa and all of the Hauk families, you are in my thoughts. One of my favorite memories of Dave would be when worked together one summer (mid 80's) on a construction remodel at the Batesland,SD school. We had no tube in our camp, thus we listened to the NBA Finals on the radio. Dave was a huge Celtics fan, thus I had to be the Lakers fan...what a series and what a hoot going back and forth with Dave regarding 'Showtime' and the 'Celts'... I cherish all my memories going down the road with Dave. Dave was a genuine friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. David and I were such good ole buddies all thru our grade school years at ole Lincoln grade school. What fun we had when a bunch of us neighborhood kids got togather and had egg fights in the barn,(we were wild but had so much fun.) David, Jeanni Nixon and I rode our horses to school and thought we were such big shots. Oh my the good ole memory's I have, I could go on and on. David will be missed by many, but he also leaves us with a smile when we remember the good times. God Bless and Keep You David.
