Selma J. Grable

Selma Josephine Hogen was born November 5, 1910 on her parents homestead in the South Creek community north of Kadoka, SD, to Samuel and Bertha (Langorgen) Hogen.

She grew up in that community and graduated from Kadoka High School.

She was united in marriage to Clarence B. Grable on December 9, 1933 at Philip, South Dakota.

They owned and operated a farm one-half mile west of Kadoka all their married life. In 1952 they built a home on the west edge of Kadoka.

Her husband preceded her in death on December 20, 1956.

She continued to make her home on the west edge of Kadoka. She was instrumental in the Gateway Apartment Project and served on the board of directors. She was one of the first to move into the Gateway Apartments when they were completed. She continued to make her home in the apartments until health reasons forced her into the Kadoka Nursing Home in December of 1991, where she has continued to reside.

Selma was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Rich Grable Sr. and his wife, Marilyn of Kadoka; three grandchildren, Rich Grable Jr. and his wife, Chris of Rapid City, Jack Grable of Denver, CO, and Jill Riggins and her husband Sterling of Wanblee, SD; six great-grandchildren, Amber Riggins, Zane Riggins, Heather Riggins, Amy Grable, Ashley Grable and Brian Grable; a brother Ervie Hogen of Sundance, WY; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Clarence, she was preceded in death by three sons, Virgil (Sonny) Grable in September 1952, and two sons in infancy, both named Donald Clarence Grable.

Funeral services for Selma Grable, age 90, of Kadoka, willl be held 10:00 a.m. Monday July 30, 2001 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka with Pastor Jill Jackson Officiating.

Closed casket visitation will be held 1 hour before the services at the church on Monday, July 30, 2001

Interment will be in the South Creek Cemetery north of Kadoka.
