Harry L. "Bud" Paulsen

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Saturday, January 27, 2001
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 87

Harry L. Paulsen, better known as "Bud" to his family and friends, was born February 1, 1913, on a farm-ranch in the Pedro, South Dakota, area to Ray S. and Ora M. (Strandell) Paulsen.

He attended Pleasant View School through 8th grade.  He then went to one year of high school at Cottonwood and one year at the Business College in Rapid City where he and his sister lived together.

He then came back to the ranch to work with his parents.  It was at this time they started moving cattle to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to pasture during the summer, because of the dry conditions at the ranch.  Bud enjoyed saddle horses and handled them well.

Bud was united in marriage to Carol Poste on September 20, 1941, in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Bud and Carol bought the ranch from Bud's parents and lived there until they sold the ranch in 1958 and moved to Wall.  Bud and Carol spent one year in Huron helping build and manage the Plains Motel with Edna and Al Barnes.  Then they returned to Wall and built their home in 1963.  He worked at the Sands Motel for the Estes brothers and for the city of Wall doing maintenance work for the Cemetery Board and Park Board.

Bud was a member of the Crescent Masonic Lodge #210, A.F. & A.M. of Wall, since 1951.  He was master in 1977.  He became a member of the Shrine in 1972 and was president of the 4-Rivers Shrine Club in 1989.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wall, where he served as an usher for many years.  He helped with the Lions Club and Commercial Club with their pancake suppers for many years for which he was presented a plaque.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol Paulsen of Wall; a daughter Sherry DeLand and her husband, Kurth of Stromsburg, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Kara Nelson, Mitch DeLand, and Kendra Schmit; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Barnes of Rapid City, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bud was preced in death by his parents; one brother, John F. "Johnny" Paulsen; and a sister, Gladys Sether.
