Anton Drabek

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2000
at his home in Philip at the age of 85

Anton J. Drabek was born January 17, 1915, on his parents' homestead 10 miles north of Belvidere, South Dakota, the son of Vaclav James and Anna (Stanek) Drabek.  he grew up on the homestead and received his education at the Highland Center Country School.

As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He served with the 428 Armored Field Battalion as a Master Sergeant.  After his honorable discharge on January 14, 1946, he returned to the Drabek Ranch where he ranched all his life.

Anton was united in marriage to Marguerite Clark on September 13, 1986, at Kadoka.  They made their home on the ranch north of Belvidere until June of 1997, when they moved to Philip.

Anton was an elected member of the West Central Electric Board of Directors and had served for 43 years before his retirement in 1997, because of health reasons.  He was a life member of the Petersen-Stoddards American Legion Post #144 of Belvidere.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marguerite Drabek of Philip; four step-sons, Dan and Ed Davidson, both of Boise, Idaho, Ron Davidson of Nampa, Idaho, and Jim Davidson of Idaho; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Anton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Charles Drabek; and a sister, Ida Parke.

A memorial is established.
