Francisco "Frank" Perez

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, November 23, 1999
at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 92

Francisco Perez, better known as "Frank" to his family and friends, was born April 2, 1907, in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico, one of seven children born to Pedro and Nabora Perez.

In 1924, at the age of 17, he came to the Untied States with his friend, Leo Garcia.  He worked for various railroads from Texas to Illinois.  In 1929, he started working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad from Pierre to Rapid City, South Dakota.

Frank was united in marriage to Florence Mae Strandell on June 20, 1936, at Rapid City.

They made their home in Quinn, Wasta, and Van Meter prior to moving to Philip in 1949.  Frank retired from the railroad in 1972 after 46 years of service.

After retiring, he enjoyed cutting wood, remodeling his home, as well as his son's home in Rapid City.  He also enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Frank's wife, Florence, preceded him in death on July 16, 1995.  Frank continued to make his home in Philip until moving to Rapid City to live with his son and family in 1998.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Donna Perez of Rapid City; two grandchildren, Derrick Perez and Lia Perez, both of Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Annabelle Martin of Rapid City; three nephews, Ira Strandell, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, Roger Strandell of Indian Hills, Colorado, and Marvin Martin of Lansing, Michigan; four nieces, Barbara Solano, Bonnie Lucklider, Marsha Lee Houk, all of Rapid City, and Sharon Ormesher of Greensboro, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Florence, he was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

A memorial has been established to Haakon County Prairie Transportation.
