Joe Fosheim

of Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, died on Monday, October 27, 2014
at his daughter's home in Ft. Pierre at the age of 75

Joseph Ira Fosheim was born April 26, 1939, to Peter T. and Viola (Hand) Fosheim. Joe attended grade school at Little Eagle Country School and graduated from Midland High School.

Joseph married Shirley Sammons on December 27, 1959, and they had one daughter Pamela Lynn and one son Dean Alan. Joe and Shirley lived in Rapid City where Joe drove a delivery route for the Old Home Bakery. In the early 60’s Joe’s dad asked him to come work on the family farm. Joe took pride in and loved “the place” where he farmed and ranched the rest of his life.

Joe loved sports, both playing them and watching them. He particularly loved baseball and his favorite team was always the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed being outdoors and did a lot of hunting and camping.

Joe was a family man. He was the middle child of 13 and he loved spending time with his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He was a quiet man and just as much could be learned by what he didn’t say as what he did say.

Survivors include his daughter Pam and her husband Steve of Ft. Pierre; his son Dean of Pierre; four grandchildren Lee Gerlach (Nathan) of Pierre, Michael Kendall (Natasha) of Durham, NC, Allison Fosheim and her fiancé Jason Griese; and Adam Fosheim of Pierre; five great-grandchildren Keira and Zoe Harnois, Trent and Hudson Gerlach, and Leon Kendall Lambert; two brothers Peter Fosheim (Sylvia) of Pierre, and Vic Fosheim (Carol ) of Midland; four sisters Edith Schofield of Casper, Wyoming, Judy Gerig (George) of Pierre, Tina Haug (Orlyn) of Pierre, and Ruth Gassner (Lou) of Berthoud, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Shirley on February 2, 2003; her parents; four brothers Richard, Roger, Johnny and George Fosheim; and two sisters Thelma Jean Schofield and Pauline Schofield.

Guest Book

Pam, Dean and families- Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dad. You did a wonderful job of standing by him and caring for him when he needed you most. We know how much you will miss him. What a happy reunion he is having right now with your Mom. Know that they are now together and safe in God's care and that you will see them again one day. May God hold you close and help you through this difficult time.

I'm was so sorry to hear about Joe. Cancer is such an ugly disease. He is no longer in pain, but know it's hard to lose a loved one. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
