Etta Eloise Brown

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Saturday, February 13, 1999
at the Kadoka Care Center in Kadoka at the age of 99

Etta Eloise Trimble, better known as Eloise to her family and friends, was born March 13, 1899, in Black, South Dakota, which later became known as Old Interior, South Dakota, to Guy and Bessie (Farnham) Trimble.

After her mother died, she and her sister, Hallie, and brother, Henry, were raised by their Grandmother and Grandfather Farnham.

She attended Indain Boarding School in Pierre and Rapid City for her early education and attended high school in Interior.

Eloise was united in marriage to Joseph R. Brown on October 1, 1917, at Rapid City, South Dakota.

They farmed south of Wanblee and later moved to Kadoka where her husband worked as a barber.  They later owned the Barber Shop and continued to operate it until his death on May 22, 1951.

After her husband's death, Eloise continued to reside in Kadoka.

She moved into the Gateway Apartments in the early 1980s, where she resided until moving into the Kadoka Nursing Home in the late summer of 1992.

Elosie was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka and was baptized by a Santee Indian missionary.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Edwin "Sub" Brown of Louisville, Colorado; three daughters, Adele Treis of Kent, Washington, Florence Hogen of Kadoka, and Doris Rock of Kadoka; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Letoy Brown of Kadoka; four half-brothers, James, Dave, Eugene and Charles; four half-sisters, Grace, Bessie, Emma and Shirley.

In addition to her husband, Joseph R. Brown, Sr., she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph L. "Joe" Brown on May 24, 1986; a brother, Henry Trimble; a sister, Hallie Young; two half-sisters, Gertie and Leona Mae; and a half-brother, Albert.
