John J. "Jesse" Bryan was born January 24, 1916, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Howard and Mary (Eckmann) Bryan.  He moved to the Wall area in 1929.  He grew up through the Depression and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II under the command of General Patton, 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels".  He saw action in Northern Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium, and Germany.
He married Ruth Ann Kennedy on December 22, 1945.  They purchased a farm in the Cedar Butte area, north of Wall, where they lived and raised their children.  He lived there until his death.
His interests included carving diamond willow canes and making custom picture frames.  He enjoyed drives in his red Mustang and the close association of his neighbors.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and American Legion Post #246, both in Wall.
Surviving are three daughters, Diane and her husband, John Delgado, of Rapid City, Marilyn Ivers of Belle Fourche, and Deborah Bryan of Wall; one son, Craig and his wife, Vickie Bryan, of Platte, South Dakota; two sisters, Alegra Dawson of Exeter, Nebraska, and Aletha Wood and her husband, Kenneth, of Lexington, Nebraska; one brother, George Bryan and his wife, Faye, of Wasta; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who knew Jesse as "Super Grandma".
