Darvin E. Knapp

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Monday, November 10, 1997
at his home in Wall at the age of 60

Darvin E. Knapp was born September 18, 1937, in Wall, South Dakota, the son of George and Cly (Parkin) Knapp.

He grew up on his parents' farm-ranch, southwest of Wall.  He received his elementary education in the North Star Rural School, prior to attending Wall High School.

As a young man he lived in California for a short time and then returned to the Wall area, where he broke horses for Roy Shull.

Darvin was united in marriage to Glenda Alishouse on May 25, 1957, at Rapid City.

They made their home on Darvin's parents' farm-ranch for four years prior to moving to Atkinson, Nebraska, where they wintered cattle for five months.  In 1961, they returned to this community where they made their home on the Trask Ranch, located on the Cheyenne River north of Wall.

In 1966, they purchased his maternal grandparents' homestead - the Tom Parkin Farm/Ranch - located 15 miles north of Wall, which they have continued to operate until the present time.

Darvin was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wall; the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association; the Farm Bureau; and served on the Ash Township Board.  Darvin's favorite things in life were his family, riding bucking horses, helping kids learn to rope, and having the annual Christmas tree hunt.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Glenda Knapp of Wall; one daughter, Vicky Dahl and her husband, Doug, of Wall; a son, Boe Knapp and his wife, Nancy, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Dillon Dahl of Wall, Jeromy, Joshua and Travis Knapp, all of Omaha; his mother, Cly Knapp of Wall; two sisters, Della Hays and her husband, Robert, of Wall; and Neva Hamann and her husband, Bill, of Wall; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Darvin was preceded in death by a son, Wade Knapp, and his father, George Knapp.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be established to the Darvin Knapp College Scholarship Fund for a two-year ag student.
